Photos by George Campbell
I was born in Trinidad and Tobago and moved to Toronto in February 1995.
I have always had a strong interest in photography. I remember the first camera I used was a Kodak 126 Box camera which was then followed by a Kodak 110 film camera and eventually a 35mm point and shoot camera. I used them mainly for taking photos of family and friends. It was more of a fun hobby at the time since cameras and film were quite expensive there.
My first SLR Film Camera was an Olympus OM 10. Seeing the difference in the image quality from the Olympus Camera, cemented my interest in photography, so I started toying with the idea of becoming a wedding photographer. I started off volunteering, taking photos at weddings of friends and co-workers. I was hooked and soon started photographing lots more weddings, sometimes doing three to four weddings in one weekend. It was a lot of hard work, but I enjoyed it immensely.
Since arriving in Toronto in 1995, I didn't do much photography. I more or less just walked around exploring and taking snapshots of the city.
One day while walking through the Don Mills Centre in the late 90s, I came across a photography exhibition put on by the Don Mills Camera Club. I was very impressed and decided to join the club. I kept telling myself that I would like to be able to take photographs as good as those on display. At that time, I had never shot Black and White nor Slide Film, so I was pretty "Green", so to speak.
Since joining the DMCC, my photography has improved. I am pretty much self-taught and would consider myself as more of a purist. I tend to compose most of my images in-camera hence having little to do in post-processing.
I pretty much enjoy photographing a lot of different subject matter. My main areas of interest at the moment are Landscape, Nature/Wildlife, Sports/Action, Architecture, and people in a relaxed environment. One never stops learning, as there is always something new and interesting to photograph.
I have provided some images here for your enjoyment.
