Member Profile: George Campbell

Celebrating the Artistry of Photography!

Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, George Campbell moved to Toronto in February 1995.
Since then, his passion for photography has been a steadfast companion.

It all began with humble beginnings - a Kodak 126 Box camera, followed by a Kodak 110 film camera,
and eventually, a 35mm point-and-shoot.

Back then, photography was more of a delightful pastime, cherished moments captured amidst the constraints of expensive cameras and film.

The turning point arrived with his first SLR Film Camera, an Olympus OM 10. Witnessing the remarkable difference in image quality ignited a deep-seated fascination with photography. Thus began his foray into the realm of wedding photography.

Starting with volunteering opportunities at friends' and coworkers' weddings, George was enraptured, often photographing three to four weddings in a single weekend. Though demanding, the joy it brought was immeasurable.

Upon settling in Toronto, photography took a backseat as he explored the city, occasionally taking photos along the way. Serendipity struck during a stroll through the Don Mills Centre in the late '90s when George stumbled upon a captivating photography exhibition by the Don Mills Camera Club. Inspired by the showcased works, he promptly joined the club, driven to refine his skills to match the displayed excellence.

Since joining the DMCC, his photography journey has been marked by continuous growth and self-discovery. Embracing a purist approach, George predominantly composes his shots in-camera, minimizing reliance on post-processing.

George's repertoire spans diverse subjects, including Landscape, Nature/Wildlife, Sports/Action, Architecture, and candid portraits. For George, photography is an endless pursuit of novelty and intrigue, a testament to the ever-evolving beauty of the world around us.
